Romford... You are correct... Rice is our defensive midfielder ...so Noble can play further forward and be more creative...

Twelve years ago, as a twenty year old, Mark Noble, along with Carlos Tevez saved us from what seemed like certain relegation. He was fantastic that season and drove the team forward, game after game. Without Mark Noble we'd have been down and out long before the end of the season. It's funny how some people are only just coming round to see his value to the club.

He has always been willing to fill it where needed, sometimes in situations and against opponents he was not suited.
He didn't hide and got a stick when it did not come off.

Every period we’ve looked a good side lately has coincided with Noble being the slightly more forward midfielder of two defensive midfielders.
The diamond under Zola The Great Escape under Curbs Now under Pellegrini
Fairly obvious it’s his best position.

We had just conceded a goal to Burnley and someone wanders on. Noble just wanted to get on with the game. Coming on when we conceded (if it was EVER acceptable) must have seemed like he was dealing with some CRYBABY TWAT. So he persuaded him to get off

I’m inclined to agree there mr anon. It ain’t the old days where the fans had a really close relationship with the players. And tbh my instinct would probably be to do the same

Re: Mark Noble gets his own article in the Guardian

I did think he was much further forward in the first half particularly. But that may have been us trying to push someone on to one of their midfielders (Matic or McTominay ... big limited lumps look similar from a distance) to stop them playing out.
I know Noble has now been with us for 15 years ... is there anyone else in the Premier league with that sort of service?

I didn't for a while but I think it's beyond doubt he loves the club so in his head it must have come from a good place. It's his job to oversee results on the pitch so anything that threatens his teams concentration he's going to want to stamp out with a vengeance

As I said yesterday the thing with noble is he performs so much better when playing with good players. That’s where he comes into his own. Poor cunt!

Noble looks like he is playing a different position to me and it has done him the world of good... no more rash tackles on the edge of the box!!
His pressing in offensive areas is great and several times he was beyond haller chasing defenders.. Fornals also does the same(which he doesn’t get credit for) which has taken so much pressure off the defence!!

Enjoyed reading both of those. They're neither of them perfect, just as Noble isn't a perfect player, but very decent articles about a very decent player.

That Kyle Picknell piece shows him to be the Rigobert Song of football writing.
Not very good, with a massive opinion of himself.

the Joe piece almost seems like its mocking him, lots and lots of backhanded compliments by someone who has clearly not watched Noble outside of a few games.
He'd probably shit himself if he saw that Noble volley against leicester from a year or 2 ago.

Dunno about that joe.co.uk piece, seems to be written by someone who buys into a Noble stereotype rather than somebody who watches him - "always looks for the simple pass"...yeah when he isn't pinging some of the nicest passes and through palls around the pitch

"unostentatious...malapropism...altruism...triumvirate..." only in The Guardian...
Bloody hell, what's your usual reading material? The Sun?
I wouldn't be that surprised to find words like that in The Mail or even the Mirror. Maybe infrequently, but not never.

Rios,
Exactly my point, fits in between those descriptions to become the modern midfield work horse but far from a donkey :-)

He must have voted remain to get the Guardian to write stuff like that.
